Vitor Mira crashed...on the last lap.

There are many examples where the media affects Otiz’s story. Obviously, her encounter with Santa is an important example, seeing as Christmas is debatably the most commercialized holiday ever conceived. Another interesting interaction with the media was the product that helped people gain weigh that she wanted in order to succeed in her gym classes and look more like Wonder woman. This product, which was obviously not the answer to all of her problems, was an outlet she wished to use in order to rectify her situation in some menial way. Unfortunately for her, she was unsuccessful in convincing her mother to buy this product for her. Interestingly, throughout the piece, the mother is shown as an all-knowing individual. The media also affects people’s perceptions of group dos individuals. While the story of Tim may not intend to cause doubt, it is extremely likely that Tim’s father did not know the Puerto Rican army, and could possibly have simply been acting on a personal prejudice implanted and perpetuated by the media.
