No! Linda’s life in the north is not everything she had once assumed it would be. Linda was under the false perception that there was no racism in the North and was supremely surprised when she found otherwise. The racism she was exposed two while attending to the first baby made the most profound impression on her, but there were also other instances. Also, even though she was in the north, she was not free until much later, and therefore she had many unanticipated problems of trying to avoid her master’s escapades into the north. This added great distress into her life and complicated her living conditions. She had mixed emotions because on one hand she had escaped the patriarchal institution of slavery, but on the other she noticed how imperfect life still was. Yes, she was free to make her decision, but this only lasted until her power was taken away by segregation. Linda had extremely high expectations fro the north and when they were not met completely she was disappointed.
