The adds on page one and twenty-four show examples of extremely different genre’s, thereby applying much different influence and incite on the reader.

 

The cartoon on page one represents what would be most likely defined by the text as a Visual Argument. Its effect is important because it does not allow for both sides of the argument to be displayed, instead exposing one belief quickly and decisively. It allows the biased of the author to come through and influences the readers who are uneducated to the situation, unless they are so uneducated that they do not in fact understand the meaning. The impact of the cartoon is lightened by the humor because some people reading political cartoons overlook the point being made to laugh at the joke. While that makes it less effective in some ways, it is more effective at points because it is easy to remember and people enjoy sharing funny things with friends, spreading the message.

 

The cartoon on page twenty-four displays an example of a public affair advocacy advertisement. Once again, due to its genre, it allows extreme biased to be seen by the reader informing them of a series of uncontested facts. It is like a scare tactic used by the author in order to convince the reader of their point of view. If they had chosen a subtler genre, it would have been less likely to influence the uneducated audience because the fear remains in their head longer then humor.
